Ending poverty
Redam Association is a global movement of people, working together to end the injustice of poverty. Working with partners, we use a combination of practical tactics and innovation to deliver development programs, public education, campaigns, advocacy and humanitarian assistance in disasters and conflicts. From sanitation and clean water to getting more girls into school, we won’t stop until every person on the planet can enjoy life free from poverty. Find out more about the issues we work on.
From campaigning to end the financial secrecy that shelters trillions hidden in tax havens, to encouraging investment in universal education and healthcare – Redam is working to make sure that the poor get a share of the power and resources that will help to reduce poverty and inequality.
Advancing the right of people living in poverty to sustainable livelihoods has been a cornerstone of Redam’s work for many decades. Our goal is to enable millions of women and communities to become more resilient to a changing climate, and to secure access to the land and natural resources on which they depend.
Women form the majority of those living in poverty. They have fewer resources, less power and less influence compared to men, and can experience further inequality because of their class, ethnicity and age, as well as religious and other fundamentalism. Gender inequality is a key driver of poverty. And a fundamental denial of women’s rights.
Redam has a long and well-recognized record of humanitarian relief in times of crisis. When disaster strikes, we respond – delivering high quality lifesaving assistance and essential protection to the most affected.
In rich countries, clean water is so plentiful and easily available that we simply take it for granted. Yet around the world, diseases from unsafe water kill more people each year than any other cause, making this one of the world’s most urgent health issues. Water is central to almost every aspect of Redam’s work.
